The 2016 FBAlous! Artists:
Jaim Hackbart
Pre-Spring Tree
Medium: Print, hand colored on paper
The piece I have designed for the Fontenelle Boulevard Art (FBA)lous Project is a departure from my current methods of image creation. There are visual elements such as playful use of pattern and shape in this image that carry through into my current work. I returned to a previous way of image making for this project because I felt this print represented the spirit of the boulevard best. The image's striking contrast fits with the beauty of the tree lined boulevard. The image of a tree pre-Spring with it's brightness awaits new birth. It is a time of great potential. Whenever I drive through Fontenelle Boulevard, I am taken back by the beautiful trees & older stately homes. I wanted to create an image that represented that feeling of tradition, awe and renewal.

Jump on Board the Peace Crane
Medium: Acrylic, pen, ink, velum on stonehenge paper
I love the representation of Peace through origami cranes and cranes in general. The symbolic hand gesture of Peace is universal. So thinking about the fact that when one person feels peace and asks another to join them...as someone WILL join (it is our human nature).. then another
will follow...and so on. There is more love and peace in humanity than we give credit. So I too wanted to plant seeds of Peace through my work.
Telling a story through my art is first and foremost important to me. My passion is animals of all sorts. Through my whimsical mind, I create a truth in my own minds eye. Throughout the years I have seen my work evolve into this. So I consider my work a lifelong story as well. For in my process, making a painting isn't just what I create as an image on the paper or canvas. I start with an image in my thought, and proceed to creating a story in my mind. Therefore, one must be able to read my paintings between the strokes.
